Berkeley Area of Denver (The Highlands)

Berkeley Neighborhood Information

The Berkeley neighborhood is part of popular Northwest Denver and often grouped together with the largest neighborhood in the area, the Highlands. Berkeley is located approximately 10 minutes from downtown Denver. It is bordered by 38th Ave, Sheridan Blvd., I-70 and Federal Blvd.

Berkeley gets its roots and it's name dating back to 1879 when John Brisben Walker purchased 1700 acres of land and named it Berkeley Farm. Berkeley developed in large part around the parks, the post office at 41st and Tennyson, Regis University to the North, and Willis Case Golf Course to the North. Some consider Berkeley's boundary to the North to be 52nd Ave which would include both Regis University and Willis Case Golf Course.

Berkeley Highlights

Berkeley is filled with small family-owned restaurants specializing in regional cuisines from many of the places the first immigrants to Denver came from, including a large Italian influence. The neighborhood features three large parks - Sloan's Lake, Rocky Mountain Lake, and Berkeley Park, making it a great place for those interested in the outdoors.

The Tennyson Street Cultural District is one the main focal points of this vibrant neighborhood. The 8 - 10 block strip features great locally owned restaurants like Parisi and Big Hoss BBQ, boutique shops, and small businesses. Additionally, neighbors and visitors fill the street spring through fall for the First Friday Art Walk, a fun event for all ages and a great opportunity for local art galleries to open their doors to the public.
