Downtown Neighborhood in DenverDowntown Neighborhood InformationDowntown Denver is the main hub of the city, bordered by Speer Blvd., Broadway, and 20th Streets, with LoDo to the west and Capitol Hill to the east. Although it is the primary financial, commercial and entertainment district in the city, Downtown also features a number of high-rise and loft-style condominiums for city living. Downtown HighlightsUnlike many cities which have abandoned their downtown areas in favor of suburban living, Denver has made strong efforts to centralize its commercial and entertainment interests in this area. The construction of three major league sports stadiums, including Coors Field, Pepsi Center and Invesco Field all within the past 15 years, all within walking distance of Downtown, has added to these efforts. Additionally, Downtown Denver is home to the second largest Performing Arts Center in the United States. The Denver Convention Center hosts hundreds of conventions, meetings and exhibits annually. With a multitude of hotels nearby, Downtown Denver draws thousands of tourists and business professionals to the city every year. At the heart of Downtown lies the 16th Street Pedestrian Mall, which starts at Broadway Bus Terminal and stretches 16 blocks to the 15th Street Bridge. This bridge connects the Platte Valley River District to Denver's Highland neighborhood. The 16th Street Mall features a variety of shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues. Here you will find the Denver Pavilions shopping area; home to a movie theater, bowling alley and Nike Town, among others. A free shuttle runs from one side to the other, stopping at every block, transporting thousands daily up and down the mall. Downtown Real EstateDowntown Denver is popular for many urbanites because of its fast pace and accessibility to so much within walking distance. In addition to the many existing buildings that have been renovated for condo living, there are a number of new high-rise options available, including The Spire and the new Four Seasons, which will be completed in 2011. Like its neighbor LoDo, the real estate market Downtown has continued to show steady growth over the past ten years, with many new condo developments priced as low as $200,000 up to $3,000,000 for large custom-finished spaces. |
