LoDo Area in Denver

LoDo Neighborhood Information

LoDo, or Lower Downtown, is in the heart of historical Denver. LoDo is the oldest neighborhood in Denver. General William Larimer founded Denver after gold was discovered in 1858 and laid cottonwood logs outlining what is now known as the current LoDo area. LoDo's boundaries today are Speer Blvd., 20th St., Lawrence and the South Platte River. As the city began to grow, Union Station and 127 other historical buildings, still standing today and protected by the Lower Downtown Historic District, were constructed, and one the most vibrant cities in the West got its beginning.

Over the past ten years the area has undergone a complete transformation with the construction of Coors Field, the Rockies baseball stadium, which helped to revitalize the area and welcome the addition of multiple art galleries, clubs, restaurants and bars.

LoDo Highlights

Its central location offers every opportunity to keep the residents involved and active in the city. Biking the Cherry Creek bike path, shopping at local boutiques in Larimer Square, eating at fantastic restaurants in Red Square, or catching a show at the Center for Performing Arts are just a few of the activities available to residents. Not only are there fantastic restaurants, from steakhouses to fine dining and brewpubs, there are also endless sporting events to be energized by. Denver is know as a sports city and a short walk or light rail ride can get you to a Broncos, Rockies, Avalanche or Nuggets game in a matter of minutes.
