MonclairMonclair Neighborhood InformationMontclair was originally developed as a small suburban community east of Denver, and was originally designed to attract wealthier residents who were turned off by Denver's saloons and Market Street bordellos. Homeowners were required to purchase and build on lots that were twice the Denver standard size of 25 feet by 125 feet, homes at least three stories high, and made of brick or stone, which helped to create the beautiful neighborhood that remains today. Montclair's neighborhood boundaries are Colfax Ave to the north, 6th Ave to the south, Holly Street to the west and Quebec Street to the east. What is commonly known as East Montclair is located east of Quebec, north of 11th Ave, south of Colfax and west of Yosemite. The Montclair Post Office is located in East Montclair, which borders Lowry to the south and Aurora to the east. Monclair HighlightsIn 1975, residents and the Denver City Council voted to make the central heart of Montclair a historic district. This made Montclair one of the first neighborhoods to seek this landmark designation. The landmark historic district designation served as a means of community preservation and revitalization. This quaint neighborhood features the unique Richthofen Castle, which was built by the Red Baron's uncle Walter sometime between 1878 and 1887, three lovely parks for residents to enjoy, and sits adjacent to Lowry for shopping, dining and other activities. Monclair Real EstateThe same requirements that made Montclair exclusive at the turn of the century became a driving force behind the establishment of the Montclair Historic District. The neighborhood includes grand old trees, large lots, and distinctive houses. The architecture in this area includes nineteenth-century Victorian and Queen Anne style homes, Bungalows, Cottages, Tudors and some Ranch-style homes. Home prices in Montclair remain strong, with the average listing price between $350,000 and $400,000, with several large older homes valued at $1 million plus, home values vary significantly based on style and location within the neighborhood. |
