Washington Park Neighborhood in DenverWashington Park Neighborhood InformationAs one of the largest parks in Denver, Washington Park, or known to locals as Wash Park, is a popular place for many locals. From pick-up volleyball games, to soccer, tennis, and large get-togethers, it's a rare day that the park isn't packed with people. Additionally, residents take full advantage of the running trail that borders the perimeter of the park, and a recreation center with an indoor pool and member activities to enjoy year-round. The history of Washington Park dates back from the late 1800's to the early 1900's when the German architect Reinhard Schuetze completed the design. Most of the original plan still exists today, which includes the Lily Pond, Smith and Grasmere Lakes, carriage-ways throughout the park, and an extensive tree lined meadow near the South side of Smith Lake. Years later, the landscape architects Saco Rienk DeBoer and Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. added a few additional features, including the boat house and the evergreens on the north side of the park. The neighborhood of Washington Park is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city of Denver and features beautiful mature landscaping, tree-lined streets and ample shade, which is unique to many older areas of the city. Washington Park was considered Denver's first suburb to the south in 1866, and after development was fully underway in 1899, the neighborhood began to quickly grow. Washington Park HighlightsIn addition to the many highlights of the park itself, the neighborhood features a variety of shopping districts and great dining and bars. In 1925, South Gaylord Street was zoned for business use and has since been a popular area for residents to enjoy. The street features salons, restaurants, boutiques, galleries and hosts a number of neighborhood events and street fairs throughout the year. Washington Park Real EstateReal estate within the 80209 Washington Park area has been booming for many years. Most of the brick homes were built in the early 1900's when the neighborhood was developed. Bungalows and duplexes are intermingled with new development and existing homes that have been updated with additions and high-end finishes. Price points for single-family homes start around $300,000 and quickly increase to upwards of $1.5 million.
